Derby has some good sports destinations and the mains sports in the area are football and cricket. Derby County Football Team is the main professional team and has historically won championships in 1946 and 1972 and 1975 respectively. The team plays the home games at Pride Park which is safely located on the outskirts of Derby. It has been in operation since 1997 and has a capacity of well over thirty four thousand. It is the sixth largest football venue in England but has surprisingly not hosted any international football games. Derby County used to play their football games at the Baseball Ground until moving to Pride Park.
Rugby is also a big sport in Derby with the Derby City Rugby League Football Club being a competitor in the Midlands Premier Division and also the Derby Rugby Football Club who play in the same league but a different division.
Derby play cricket at county level under the Derbyshire County Cricket Club. The home ground is called the County Ground and this is an impressive setting which has been renovated in the past years and has world class training facilities nearby. Tickets are always available for championship and T20 games.
